Alabaster Girl Perfumes originated from a magnificent story found in St. Luke 7 of the Bible. This is the story of Mary Magdalene, who anointed the feet of Jesus with ointment from her alabaster box. This valuable box of ointment would cost a year's salary but was lovingly given to anoint the feet of Christ before His crucifixion. "And behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, and stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with ointment."
The word perfume comes from the Latin phrase, "per" meaning "through" and "fumus" meaning smoke. Most perfumes are known as EDP's and EDT. Eau de Parfum (EDP) comes with 15-20% essential oils. Eau de Toilette (EDT) comes with 8-15% oils. Eau de Cologne has 4% essential oils. Eau Fraiche has 1-3% essential oils, the lesser dilution of fragrance.
There are many fragrances: Floral, oriental, floriental, chypre, green marine and fruit. Typical plant products include anise, bay leaf, bergamot, cardamom, cedar wood, eucalyptus, frankincense, gardenia, geranium, iris, jasmine, lavender, lemon, lilac, lily, lily of the valley, magnolia, moss, neroli, orange, orris, patchouli, pine, raspberry, rose, sage, sandalwood, tuberose, vanilla, violet and ylang-ylang.
People have used perfume, oils and unguents on their bodies for centuries. The early Egyptians used perfumed balms as part of their religious ceremonies and later as part of pre-love making preparations. Myrrh and frankincense were exuded gums from trees used to scent the atmosphere rituals. Other plants such as rose and peppermint were steeped in oils until a perfume unguent formed. The unguent was then rubbed into the skin. In the Testament, the three wise men carried gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the infant Jesus. Long before, Moses was commanded by the Lord to "take unto thee sweet spices , stacte and onycha and galbanum with...pure frankincense...and thou shalt make it a perfume."
